Youth Mental Health First Aid2 day practical training

Our Mental Health First Aid Course is available either at your place of work over 2 days of your choosing, or at any of our training venues across the UK.

The course will equip you with the necessary skills to understand and recognise signs of mental ill health, the confidence to support and reassure a person in distress, and the knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support.

Who is the course most suitable for?

This course is ideal for anyone in the workplace, as well as individuals who wish to have a better understanding of mental health issues, and how to help.

About the course

Our two day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider, giving you:

  • An in depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix

  • Treatment and resources for anxiety disorders
  • Cognitive distortions and CBT
  • Personality disorders
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-harm
  • What is psychosis?
  • Risk factors for psychosis
  • Alcohol, drugs and psychosis
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Warning signs of developing psychosis
  • Crisis first aid for acute psychosis
  • Treatment and resources for psychosis
  • Recovery and building resources
  • Action planning for using MHFA

You will receive a certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider, a MHFA manual to refer to whenever you need it, and a workbook including some helpful tools to support your own mental health.

Duration: Two Days of Practical Mental Health First Aid Training – 6 Hours each day.

If you are booking an in-house course, you are free to choose the Start / Finish times for the training. We recommend starting at approx. 9:00am as this will enable the course to finish at 16:30

Assessment: You will be assessed by your trainer during the practical sessions, and you must complete a final written assessment at the end of the course.

Certificate: On completion of the course you will receive an MHFA accredited certificate.

Where can I do it?: This course can be run at your place of work anywhere in the UK, or you can book to attend at any of our training venues.

Please wear comfortable clothes and bring photo ID - our trainer will request sight of this for certification purposes.

We provide light refreshments at our training centres, but not lunch – so you may wish to bring your own or purchase your lunch at the venue or nearby.

This course suitable for learners of all confidence levels. It is designed to be engagingand dynamic with memorable training techniques that maximise recall.

Please be aware that the content of the Mental Health First Aid course can be triggering for some individuals, as there are several sensitive subject matters that must be covered.
